Mock Draft Comparison

MLB.com just released on their fantasy side of things their Top 100 Fantasy Players.  I wanted to take a look at where I was able to grab some of them in my previous Mock Draft to show that you can get guys of value in different positions.  Here is where I got some of these guys (Draft Position, mlb.com Ranking):

Albert Pujols (2, 2)
Chase Utley (19, 17)
Alfonso Soriano (22, 18)
Carlos Quentin (39, 26)
CC Sabathia (42, 32)
Jacoby Ellsbury (59, 39)
Chris Davis (62, 64)
John Lackey (79, 63)
Derek Jeter (82, 95)
Carlos Delgado (99, 83)
Johnny Damon (102, 81)
Do any of these really look like an extreme bargain?  Maybe..maybe not, I loved Jacoby in the 6th round and Utley with the next to last pick in the second.  Let the other guy use his first round pick on an Ian Kinsler type while you grab someone more valuable in the next round :) .

Another 10 Team Mock Draft!

Once again, I have went to MDC and completed a ten-team mock draft.  This time, they have actually projected me at first place, you can see the projections here.  My team name is “I DON’T HAVE A PROBLEM”…I did not actually choose the name!  It was an interesting draft, and you can see that they have not projected any category under a fourth place finish (if you were guaranteed that before a draft, you should celebrate).  As I was saying…take a look at the info, here are the players I acquired via draft (A little different than the previous test drafts)…You will see roster requisites with players drafted to fill in (Round picked in parenthesis - Pick # following):

C Mike Napoli (15, #142)
C Kelly Shoppach (23, #222)
1B Albert Pujols (1, #2)
2B Chase Utley (2, #19)
SS Derek Jeter (9, #82)
3B Chris Davis (7, #62)
OF Alfonso Soriano (3, #22)
OF Carlos Quentin (4, #39)
OF Jacoby Ellsbury (6, #59)
OF Johnny Damon (11, #102)
OF Raul Ibanez (13, #122)
CI Carlos Delgado (10, #99)
MI Mike Aviles (17, #162)
U Mark DeRosa (21, #202)
P CC Sabathia (5, #42)
P John Lackey (8, #79)
P Matt Cain (12, #119)
P Kevin Slowey (18, #179)
P Ted Lilly (19, #182)
P Jered Weaver (20, #199)
P Matt Cain (14, #139)
P Kerry Wood (16, #159)
P Frank Francisco (22, #219)

I thought while I was drafting that the team was extremely balanced.  I have my sluggers (Pujols/Utley/Davis in the infield alone!) – I drafted two pitchers before Round 10 (which I rarely do) but I was very happy with where those pitchers fell and felt like they were quality selections for the situations.  Sometimes you need to do that in the draft.  Is there anyone that I should have drafted instead of the players I did?  I would be very up to hearing a disagreeance.  Have a great day everyone!  Next post I will compare the top 100 players from Fantasy 411′s blog and see where I drafted them.

Mock Draft – 10 Team League

I just completed a mock draft over at www.mockdraftcentral.com.  You can see the results here.  There was one roster spot for every position except for 5 OF, and they added a CI & MI position.  Also, there were two U so you had to be ready to jump on the offense.  14 Hitters instead of the normal 13 along with having two fewer teams.  FYI, here are my picks (From the 2nd position):
(1) Hanley Ramirez
(2) Alfonso Soriano
(3) Brandon Phillips
(4) Dustin Pedroia
(5) Alexis Rios
(6) Dan Haren
(7) Chris Davis
(8) Adam Dunn
(9) Garrett Atkins
(10) Johnny Damon
(11) Ryan Zimmerman
(12) Mike Napoli
(13) Matt Cain
(14) Javier Vasquez
(15) Zack Greinke
(16) Ted Lilly
(17) Heath Bell
(18) Mike Gonzalez
(19) Pablo Sandoval
(20) Rick Ankiel
(21) Chris Young (P from SD, not the OF from AZ)
(22) Adrian Beltre
(23) Jered Weaver

If you read my blog at all, you know I got a lot of guys that I have been clammering for you all to get as well.  I had one severe mistake with the button at MDC and that was the Brandon Phillips pick.  I wanted to draft Dustin Pedroia there (cannot believe he was still there in the 4th, I had to select him, even though it was consecutive MI).  MDC’s projections have me at 3rd place for the league.  My weaknesses: AVG, SV, and WHIP.  Like I told you before, the goal is 3rd in each position.  I made one categorical mistake with my draft, and that was overthinking my HR total.  I freaked out and drafted Adam Dunn for the homers while taking a massive hit in the average from him.  I had two hitters over .300 and two hitters under .270 (Napoli I project at .268).  Dunn is an extreme aberration at .244 and it affected me to a projected 7th place finish in the category.  I have not done enough work yet on the pitcher side so I was still going on gut with them (although Dan Haren could not not be taken in the 6th round).  I don’t mind being weak in the SV category to start, as we always say, you can get them off the wire just about anytime.  You can have my own hitter projections for my draft right here:
Mock Draft Stats.xlsx .  Let me know if you think anything is off!  By the way, I’m really thinking hard about my Adrian Beltre projection…can he hit 29?  Ugh!
