Pitcher Projections
I redid the SP Projections to show the ER totals and actually shows the WHIP projections for them. Also, as an added bonus, here are my RP projections as well! Two for the price of one today at the Crystal Ball mall! So, here it is, I hope it helps out! In the coming days, you will be able to come here for positional rankings, I am debating on how exactly to distribute them, I believe I may simply give you the rankings per position and no official 1-100 ranking, but I kind of want to do that too!
Guys who may be on the waiver wire
Okay, it is May, you see your pitchers are struggling and you are not sure what to do. What guys are going to be undrafted who may be there for you to take? Here’s three that I think have potential to be worthy of a pickup…just check their start and act accordingly:
Sean Gallagher, OAK. He was the centerpiece of the Harden deal and Billy Beane seemingly always finds these types (hello Dan Haren). If Beane believes, I believe Beane!
Cha Seung Baek, SD. I am a little out there with him. I see SD as being very good for him. He may get under a 4.1 ERA with a decent WHIP.
David Purcey, TOR. Someone has to start in Toronto. This kid has the talent to be good enough. The former first rounder seemed to find what he needed this past season and is ready for a new one. Watch the start and he could be what you need to get some solid stats.
I’m not the #1, but I’m good!
Let’s take a look at SP for teams that are undervalued simply because they are not the #1s. (For example, I am not including Jon Lester & Dice-K, not because they aren’t quality pitchers, but because they are going – circa 10th round - where their value would say they should go)
D’Backs – Dan Haren. But B-Webb had 6 more W’s!!!! Yea yea…he only had a .03 better ERA while lacking 23 K’s and behind by .07 in the WHIP category. Haren is an excellent NL SP option. He is averaging going 12 spots behind Webb. Add in a 5/1 K/BB Rate!
ChiCubs – Ted Lilly. Whether you consider Demp/Hard/or Z the #1 Fantasy SP for this team, you will get the best value out of this guy. He is a K machine with good control. 13-15th for a top 8 round value P.
Reds – Aaron Harang. Everyone forgets this guy has been a fantasy giant for years…he had one bad year…give him another shot! Some drafts you will find him in the 15th!
Rox – Ubaldo Jiminez. Huge K guy…you have to hope he figures out his control. He’s a 20+ Rounder so you can’t lose much if you draft him.
Marlins – Josh Johnson. He had a fantastic close to the season…maybe he’ll keep it going for next season…you can get him as late as you want.
‘Stros – Wandy Rodriguez – Surefire candidate to breakout. Almost a K/IP, as he progresses through more innings he could be a 3.5 ERA with a powerful K rate.
Royals – Take your pick. Greinke/Meche. Both underrated. Greinke is around Rd 12 while Meche is after 20. Take them both!
Angels – Jered Weaver. Literally done nothing but pitch well (especially in terms of fantasy), but yet cannot seem to get the love. Grab him after Rd 16 and be happy.
Yanks – Chien-Mien Wang. Wait til you are drafting and just look for his name. I have seen him go undrafted, and I have seen him in the 14th. If he drops to 17…take him and accept that value.
Phils – Brett Myers. His stats from last year are skewed. Myers struggled badly in his transition back to the rotation. He came back with a vengeance after a minor league stop. He’s ready to go back to his fantasy stud self. K’s everything in sight and will bring the WHIP down. He is in the 13th viscinity…wait til 14 if you can.
Pads – Chris Young. He had a forearm injury and moreso got hit by a Pujols linedrive to the face. He is a flyball pitcher, but it is a call, and Petco allows it. If you can get him in the 15th, you take him.
SF – Matt Cain. Top 7 round value in the 10th or later…too much value to donate to another team.
